Bush Princess is an ethical fashion brand that specializes in chic handbags. The designer and founder is Charlotte Lefbvre, who moved to Kenya in 2008 with her family after falling in love with Kenya. Bush Princess’s handbags are a creative fusion of Kenyan and European styles. As she designs, Charlotte Lefebvre largely draws inspiration from the various ethnic groups around Kenya and incorporates their various styles into her handbags. The simplicity, beauty and luxurious nature of Bush Princess’ handbags collections give them a unique aesthetic identity.
Bush Princess is one of the few brands in Kenya that puts emphasis on social responsibility and ethical fashion. The brand strives to remain ethically upright by having a transparent leather supply chain by sourcing all its leather from various ethnic groups around Kenya. The unique pattern and marking makes each hide exclusive and comes in the highest quality. In actuality, every material that is used to make their bags benefits the local community. For example, their brass-work is made by artisans from Kibera in Nairobi and is also recycled. All in all, Bush Princess is deeply dedicated to uplifting communities around them. This is evident from their sourcing of material, to their employment of local artisans and their environmentally friendly production process.
The creation of Bush Princess is not Charlotte’s first time delving into the fashion world and has actually always been involved in the fashion industry. Charlotte started her career as a model in Paris, and then in Sweden she worked as a sales assistant in private showroom for a variety of brands in Italy and Germany. Thereafter, she went back to Paris and became an artistic director of her future husband’s handbag brand “Terre de Bruyere.”
