An absolute favorite designer has to be Lee Alexander McQueen. From his early beginnings, to his unfortunate demise, to his resulting present legacy, his designs are truly inspirational, creative and highly emotive. Any piece coming from his collection always portrays his evident rebellious revolution in fashion embedded in it: fierce, courageous and outstanding. This is a true designer at heart, a passionate artist and one who worked and built his legacy to the point of greatness within a short period of time.
“Lee Alexander McQueen was an artist himself,” wrote Bowles, “with an artist’s ability to inspire and provoke, who has bequeathed a monumental body of work that is a wondrous testament to the passion and courage of his convictions.” [“Alexander McQueen: 1969–2010,” by Hamish Bowles. Vogue, April 2010]
Alexander McQueen’s achievement earned him four British Designer of the Year awards in 1996, 1997, 2001 and 2003 as well as the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) International Designer of the Year award in 2003. McQueen uniquely brought drama, extravagance and memorable emotive experiences to the catwalk. He used new technology and innovation to add a different twist to his shows particular to his character to his shows that shocked and surprised his audiences. The imagery in his shows and his designs has been credited for adding a sense of fantasy and rebellion to fashion.
His designs could easily be the benchmark for any designer out there aspiring to be bold and true and create a truly powerful collection. Here are some of our favorite pieces.
